Board Member Responsibilities and Expectations

Overview:
The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce is seeking passionate, community-minded leaders to serve on its Board of Directors. Board Members play a vital role in advancing the Chamber’s mission to advocate for, engage and mobilize St. Johns County businesses and community to advance economic vitality, civic engagement and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities:
- Governance & Oversight
- Participate in strategic planning and policy development
- Provide fiduciary oversight to ensure sound financial management
- Ensure the Chamber is fulfilling its mission, vision, and strategic goals
- Advocacy & Representation
- Serve as an ambassador of the Chamber in the community
- Promote Chamber events, programs, and initiatives to local businesses and stakeholders
- Support advocacy efforts on behalf of business-friendly public policy
- Engagement & Participation
- Attend and actively contribute to monthly board meetings
- Join at one Chamber committee or task force
- Participate in Chamber-hosted events and member outreach efforts
- Fundraising & Resource Development
- Support fundraising and sponsorship efforts through personal contribution and/or connections
- Help identify new members, sponsors, and partnership opportunities
- Accountability & Ethics
- Adhere to the Chamber’s conflict of interest policies
- Maintain confidentiality and act in the best interest of the organization
Qualifications:
- Active membership in good standing with the St. Johns County Chamber
- Commitment to Chamber Mission, Vision and Core Values https://www.sjcchamber.com/about-us/
- Proven leadership experience in business, nonprofit, or public service
- Strong understanding of local economic and community issues
- Ability to commit sufficient time and energy to fulfill responsibilities
- Graduate from Leadership St. Johns is a plus
Time Commitment:
- Up to 4 hours per month:
- Monthly board meetings (typically 1 hour/month)
- Review agenda and supporting materials prior to board meetings (1 hour/month)
- Committee work 0.5 hour/month.
- Attend the following events:
- Annual Chamber Strategic Planning Session; 6 hours/year
- Board Orientation 1.5 hours/year
- EDC Quarterly Breakfasts 6 hours/year
- Annual Signature event 3 hours/year
- Contract renewal with the County or other agencies; business incentive votes at the county: 2 hours/year (varies)
