
2026 Legislative Updates
The Florida Legislature began its 2026 session on Tuesday, Jan. 13, amid budget uncertainties, potential property tax reduction/elimination and property insurance reform among other major issues. The St. Johns County Chamber will share updates throughout the session about key issues that will impact our members and the local business community.
What you need to know for the session
Governor’s ‘Floridians First’ proposed budget
Highlights: $800 million for workforce development, $80 million for Visit Florida (a Chamber priority), $300 million for “financially constrained counties” to offset any reduction in property tax revenue, and increased money for teachers and law enforcement
Also: DeSantis has already called for two special sessions this year after the regular session to tackle the thorny issues of redistricting and property tax reduction. Learn more »

Highlights: Continued work to eliminate/reduce person property taxes, advocate for funding for attainable housing development, increase mobility options in St. Johns County, and support for the Florida Museum of Black History and Visit Florida.
