    Ponte Vedra Beach Division Board Chair Job Description

     

    The job of the board chair is one of the most challenging roles in the nonprofit world. A successful chair inspires a shared vision for the organization and its work, builds and nurtures future board leadership, and manages the work of the board. This position demands exceptional commitment to the organization, first-rate leadership qualities, and personal integrity.
    Responsibility Overview:
    • As the chief volunteer officer, the board chair’s duties run from managing the board to working closely with the SJC Chamber Chair and PVBD Director. Additional duties may relate to his or her role as a spokesperson for the organization. The board chair also chairs the executive committee.
    • The board chair is directly responsible for voicing the interest of members in the Ponte Vedra area the SJC Chamber Board of Directors.
    • In functioning as the team leader of the board, the board chair sets goals for the board, involves all board members in the work of the board (during meetings and through committee assignments), serves as the contact for all board members on board issues, and facilitates board meetings.
    • Leads and facilitates board meetings by making sure that the agenda is closely followed, every board member has the opportunity to participate in discussions, and the board uses proper decision-making procedures.
    • The board chair will sit on the SJC Chamber Board of Directors and attend its monthly board meetings. The board chair will also attend the monthly Chair Council meetings.
    • Board chair will assist in visiting members and take an active role in recruiting and retaining members in the Ponte Vedra area; this may include providing leadership for membership drive or member renewal visits.
    • Works with the nominating committee to identify and recruit new board members who bring important skills and knowledge to the board.
    • Prior to the PVBD board meeting, the board chair will meet with the SJC Chamber chair and the PVBD director to review the agenda and any new action items.
    • The board chair must attend at least two PVBD member event per month; Before Hours, At Noon, After Hours or Ribbon Cutting. The board chair must also attend at least two annual SJC Chamber events per year; Annual Dinner or EDC Breakfast.

    Ponte Vedra Beach Division Board Vice-Chair Job Description
     
    Responsibility Overview:
    • Attend Ponte Vedra Beach Division board meetings.
    • In absence of board chair, the vice-chair will preside at meetings of the PVBD board and may be requested to preside over PVBD events.
    • Serves on the PVBD executive committee.
    • Vice-chair might be asked by board chair to attend up to six council chair meetings per term.
    • Vice chair will understand the responsibilities of the board chair and be able to perform these duties in the chair’s absence.
    • Vice chair will assist in visiting members and take an active role in recruiting and retaining members in the Ponte Vedra area; this may include providing leadership for membership drive or member renewal visits.
    • Assist the Chamber staff in securing member sponsors for Before Hours, At Noon and After Hours. Secure 3 sponsors per year.
    • The board vice chair must attend at least two PVBD member event per month; Before Hours, At Noon, After Hours or Ribbon Cutting. The board vice chair must also attend at least two annual SJC Chamber events per year; Annual Dinner, Annual Membership Breakfast, Annual Dinner or EDC Breakfast.
    • Participate as a vital part of the board leadership.

  • Ponte Vedra Beach Division Board Secretary Job Description
     
    Responsibility Overview:
    • In advance of meetings, review and verify the minutes provided by the PVB division director
    • Bring to each meeting a copy of the bylaws as amended or otherwise altered to date
    • Work with PVBD Director in obtaining a list of new members and information on those members; types of business, etc. Obtain from PVBD director the monthly list of potential new members for board inquiries. PVBD director will attend PVBD Board meetings on a bi-monthly basis.
    • Carry out special assignments as requested by the board chair; serve as a member of standing committees, i.e. Golf Classic, Ponte Vedra Auto Show, etc.
    • Secretary will assist in visiting members and take an active role in recruiting and retaining members in the Ponte Vedra area; this may include providing leadership for membership drive or member renewal visits.
    • Assist the Chamber staff in securing member sponsors for Before Hours, At Noon and After Hours.
    • The board secretary must attend at least one PVBD member event per month; Before Hours, At Noon, After Hours or Ribbon Cutting. The board secretary must also attend at least two annual SJC Chamber events per year; Annual Dinner, Annual Membership Breakfast, Annual Dinner or EDC Breakfast.
    • In absence of board chair and vice chair, the secretary will preside at meetings of the PVBD board and maybe requested to preside over PVBD events.

    Director: The Director will educate the board with their experience, expertise and special insight into the business community.
    The director should attend all meetings, using his/her knowledge or special insight in the best interest of the division.

    Elected By: General Chamber Membership at large
    Length of Term: 1 year
    Time Commitment:   Monthly Division meetings – 1 hour
    Monthly Division Board meetings – 1 hour
    Council Board Strategic Workshop on Sept 2019 – 3 hours
    Annual Event on Oct 2019 – 2 hours
    Works directly with:  Division Chair, PVBD Directors
    Support:  St. Johns County Chamber Board of Directors
