Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. –Tournament officials for THE PLAYERS Championship announced today that volunteer registration for the 2020 tournament has started and will remain open until all volunteer positions have been filled. THE PLAYERS Championship will be played March 10-15, 2020 at the Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, when Rory McIlroy defends his title against the strongest field in golf. Anyone in the Northeast Florida area and around the world is encouraged to apply to become one of the 2,000-plus volunteers who make THE PLAYERS a gold standard event on the PGA TOUR and in the sports world.
Volunteers work side by side with the tournament team to ensure the event runs smoothly, from the moment the first spectator arrives until the final putt drops. They also have the chance to be a part of history, see the world’s best golfers up close and make lifelong friends. Yet, above all else, volunteers have enabled THE PLAYERS to generate more than $100 million for charities and non-profit organizations in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties since the tournament’s inception in 1974, and the 2019 tournament alone generated a record $9.25 million for Northeast Florida charities.
“Volunteers at THE PLAYERS do more than just help operate the PGA TOUR’s flagship event – they become part of our global family,” said Andy Carroll, tournament chairman of THE PLAYERS 2020. “Volunteers are truly the backbone of this tournament – thanks to their dedication, selflessness and positive attitudes, we are able to deliver a world-class experience for our fans, players, partners and all community stakeholders. I am proud to be the 2020 tournament chairman and look forward to meeting and working with our new volunteers.”
“Part of being a volunteer here at THE PLAYERS means an opportunity to come together with people from all over the world,” said Jim Cotton, a volunteer at THE PLAYERS. “And part of the reason I do what I do is because of the impact we have on all the charities in Northeast Florida. It gives us the opportunity to give back to the community.”
