The very first documented chamber of commerce was created in 1599 in Marseille, France. Its purpose was to gather merchants, industrialists, traders, and craftsmen in order to discuss and tackle community challenges. Today, almost every community has a local Chamber of Commerce, which mostly share the same overall goal to help to further the interests of small businesses in a local area. Being a member of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce gains credibility.
