Chamber of Commerce Participates in St. Johns County School District Career Fair

The St. Johns County School District recently held a College and Career Fair at St. Augustine High School.  Students and parents in attendance were able to visit with college recruiters, employers, and representatives from government agencies.  In addition to the fair, a series of workshops were also held.  They included topics like “Paths to Careers in Aviation”, “STEM Careers in Transportation”, “Resume Writing”, and “Dual Enrollment and Secondary Enrollment Options”.

The Chamber’s display was designed to highlight businesses and industries with the goal of educating students and parents about local opportunities for employment.  Scott Maynard, Director of Economic Development for the Chamber said, “St. Johns County provides a diverse range of jobs for all education levels but so many times students and parents are unaware that they exist.  We wanted to showcase these so students understand they can create their career locally no matter what they choose to study.”

JaxUSA was located next to the Chamber and offered additional information on career pathways within the region’s targeted industries.  The materials they provided showed students and parents how to search EarnUp.org/Career-Pathways to understand the many career options available in our region. From the website, students can explore amazing jobs from a diverse mix of industry ecosystems.  These attract a wide range of employers to our area and provide students with opportunities for a rewarding career.  Students can learn the kind of jobs that exist in our region, as well as what they pay, and the education required to obtain them.
